Day 108 ~ Cowboy Neal



I'm re-reading Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" as I often do at this time of year, wishing I could take a road trip. Since I already made a Kerouac butterfly, I thought I would make one of his side-kick, Neil Cassady, AKA Dean Moriarty, AKA Cowboy Neal, driver of Ken Kesey's busload of Merry Pranksters.
I got to meet Ken Kesey once at a book signing. I wish I could have met Cowboy Neal. Since he lived about a third of his life on the road, I made his wings out of road maps.
I love this line from the book:
"The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes "Awwww!"
